Frustrated
TMI Tuesday
1. Would you stay in a relationship with an physically unfaithful partner?
Maybe, it really depends on the circumstances.

Definitely not.
3. On a scale of 1-10, how important is the recognition of birthdays to you (your's, a friend's, a partner's)?
Mine = 1, I just kinda fake for others because I know it's important to them, but if I could get away with ignoring theirs as well, I would.

Up.
5. Every one has a pet peeve, tell me one of yours.

TMI Tueday: New Year's Edition

1. Last week was "The Most Wonderful time of the Year", but what are your favorite 2007 memories?
My epiphanies and the release of the Dragonette cd.
2. What is the best thing you learned in 2007?
That patience, though virtuous, is still thankless.
3. On a scale of 1-10, how good was your 2007?
I'd say it was an 8. I got to know myself a lot better (how terribly cliche), stood up for what I believe in, and decided once and for all to stop wasting my time doing things that I don't want to do (try it, you might like it).
4. What is your wish for 2008? What is your wish for someone else for 2008?
Homeostasis, or for my mom to just get the hint and move on - but I don't know which is more unreasonable. Grow a backbone, you'll only be able to skirt by on your looks for so long.
5. If you knew that you were going to die in 2008 what one thing would you do?
Buy that Burberry Knight bag.
Bonus (as in optional):Do you make New Year's resolutions? What is/are your's for 2008?
Yes, sometimes, and not telling.

TMI Tuesday #100

In honor of the reaching the century mark (and since I don't think any of the current players were around at the beginning), I have pulled some questions from the early days.
1. Where was the first place you ever had sex?
A bed, not terribly exciting. It was December 31, 2000 (well technically, January 1, 2001 by the time we got around to it) but it feels like it was a million years ago. It was after my friend's New Year's party (we kinda ditched, discretely, or so we thought) but everyone found out about it by Monday morning (I went to a small school). The sex itself wasn't that bad, probably because it wasn't just some random dude, but it obviously didn't mean that much to me, because less than two weesk later I was in this hardcore relationship with my first serious long-term boyfriend.
2. Does size matter? (open to interpretation boys and girls)
Yes and no. It only really matters if you're bad in bed I suppose... Also, I don't really dig short guys. I used to think it was lame when my friends had a height requirement, but I've fallen into step with that opinion overnight it seems.
3. Have you ever had sex in your office or your place of employment?
Nope, definitely not my scene. I think I'm too vanilla for that now.
4. Ever been skinny dipping?
Yes, and it resulted in my having sex with dude #1, at a later date, on a neighbour's dock at my friends cottage, classy.
5. Top or bottom?
Bottom ("Is it because I'm lazy, or because I just really like it?" to quote Margaret Cho), let's just leave it at that.
Bonus: Where were you September 11, 2001? What were you doing when you first heard about the twin towers?
In the library at McMaster University in Hamilton, ON working half-heartedly on a research paper. It was shortly before I decided to drop out to take a year off.

TMI Tuesday #99

1. What did you eat for dinner yesterday?
Garlic bread, salad and ravioli, but the girls got pizza too so I had some of that. In a word, I felt like shit after I ate it all but I regret nothing, except for my stomach-ache this morning, but I have tums for that...
2. How much cash is in your purse/wallet right now?
Roughly? I think around $10 but it's mostly in change. UPDATE: I was initially too lazy to check but then I had to get something from my bag so I actually have $16.85.
3. What have you done to avoid being flirted with by someone you didn't like?
I always rely on the trusty iPod. Nothing like white earbuds to dissuade potential suitors, well, that and sunglasses.
4. Do you believe the theory "Once a cheater always a cheater"?
No.
5. Describe your sex life in two words.
On hiatus.
Bonus (as in optional): Would you/have you ever paid money for sex?
No and no. That's really not my thing. I'm not against prostitution by any means, but I really just couldn't see myself being able to negotiate a fair price for sex...

For Lack of a Better Answer
Right I think, but I honestly can't remember the last time I felt it necessary to draw a heart...
*Can you dive without plugging your nose?
Yes, do I get the job?
*What color is your phone?
Well I have two right now, my primary one is silver, but I also have a black one. And I'm contemplating getting a black/silver one soon
*Who would you want to be tied to for 24 hours?
If I couldn't get The Engineer or my friend D, I'd pick someone intellectual who would be interested in making out (or Ross).
*Where are you right now?
At home drinking a green tea frapp and seriously craving a cigarette.
*How do you feel about carrots?
I am not a big fan. I can't stand cooked carrots unless they're in a stew, and raw carrots aren't really for me but I'll have them every once and a while.
*How many chairs at the dining room table?
I don't really care but I like even numbers. Since I essentially live by myself just two is fine, but we have four.
*Who is the best Spice Girl?
*Do you know what time it is?
Yeah, but only because I just looked at the clock.
*What would you do if you were stuck in an elevator?
Like S* I'd probably whip out my PDA and catch up on gossip blogs/my rss feeds.
*What's your favorite kind of gum?
Extra Bubblemint, or any brand of cinnamon
*T or F: All is fair in love and war?
True, but fairness is in the eye of the beholder.
*Do you use words that you don't know the meaning to?
No. I'm a closet nerd/a walking encyclopaedia.
*Do you like to sleep?
Yes and no. Sometimes I guess is a better answer. I can't sleep in though.
*Do you know which US states don't use Daylight Savings?
No, though if I had to hazard a guess they'd be in the Central Time Zone.
*Do you know the song Sugar We're Goin' Down?
Yes, vaguely.
*Do you want a bright yellow '06 mustang?
No, I don't really care for yellow cars or new Mustangs.
*What's something you've always wanted?
To be a doctor.
*Do you wear a lot of black?
No, but I'm starting to...
*Describe your hair.
Short and curly. [The curliness is] something I've learned to love as I've gotten older, but hated and fought against when I was younger.
*Are you an adult?
For all intents and purposes, yes.
*Who is/are your best friends?
Dave, Moe then The Engineer. I haven't had a best friend who was a girl since middle school.
*Do you have a tan?
No, this is the first summer I've spent cooped up in a climate-controlled environment.
*Are you a television addict?
No. I don't have cable. I download Entourage, The L Word and Weeds, and watch The Hills with friends.
*Do you enjoy spending time with your mom?
No, she's probably the most patently offensive person you'll ever meet and we don't get along.
*Are you a sugar freak?
No, but I've been known to have the occasional craving for strawberry marshmallows.
*What is your favorite movie?
Not a movie person.
*What's your sign?
Aquarius.
*Where do you wish you were right now?
Ontario, or shopping.
*Who did you copy this from?
Femme Noire Revisited
*How do you know them?
Because I have a blog crush on her.
*Would you have sex with them?
Probably not, primarily because I'm not into chicks, but also because she's just not arrogant enough for me. I seem to only be physically attracted to arrogant jock-types.
*What brand of shirt are you wearing?
Obey, with a tank from Garage or some other disposable fashion-type store underneath.
*Have you ever smoked anything?
Yes. Cigarettes, cigars, prime times, and weed. Am I forgetting something, I don't think so but perhaps.

Nickel and Dimed
-Find five coins, the nearest you have handy (pocket, purse, passed-out wino).
–Note the dates.
–For each of the coins, and for every unique date, describe a significant event from your life that you remember from that year, good or bad. If you weren’t born yet on any given date, you are free to write whatever comes to mind, if anything.
Quarter 1982
Well I wasn't even born yet, but my parents were both at turning points in their careers. My mom was still working in International Development at this point, about to spend a couple of years in the Caribbean and my dad was about finish his Master's in Accounting.
Toonie 1996
Actually this coin is from the first year they did away with two dollar bills, I remember the fanfare surrounding the launch of the coin, and the brouhaha over what it was to be called. At the end of the day it hardly makes any difference to me as I, like most people my age, almost never carry cash.
Nickel 2003
I had started at Dartmouth but almost immediately realised it wasn't for me. I had just finished a year off - unplanned after a false start at McMaster. My parents were both excited that I was actually going to go to university instead of just living downtown with my friends and boozing it up. I was just glad to get out of the country and be off their radar for a bit.
Penny 2004
Was living in residence at the University of Alberta by then (3rd university in as many years, holla!) and blowing through money like it was going out of style. I drank almost every day and rarely went to class - forgoing that in in favour of Dawson's Creek and Saved By the Bell every morning. Somehow I managed to finish the school year with a 7.8 GPA (we were on the 9-point scale for my first year)
Dime 2007
I am humbled and have definitely grown as a person, and for that I am thankful. I'm also learning, slowly but surely, to take responsibility for my own actions - and am saving for my retirement/next big trip to IKEA.

TMI Tuesday #96

1. Define "infidelity" as it relates to a relationship. Have you ever been guilty of infidelity? Have you ever been the victim of infidelity? Have you ever been a participant in someone else's infidelity?
Definitely something I'd prefer not to know about. Yes. No. Yes.
2. What is the last thing you stole?
The Bar Star's splenda packets, although I told her about it so I don't know if it counts.
3. Name on place in your country that you have never been but would like to visit and why.
I'd like to go to my mom's family's cottage in Niagara-on-the-Lake. I've never been because my mom hasn't been back since her mom died, which was before I was born.
4. What movies can you watch over and over again?
Beauty & the Beast - see: my childhood
Wedding Crashers
The American President - I'm pretty sure my dad and I have watched it together at least 50 times. Anytime it's on TV I have to watch it in its entirety.
5. Who is the last person you saw naked?
Other than myself, probably DD a couple of weeks ago. Sad to say I don't get out as much as I used to...
Bonus (as in optional): In honor of the 237 reasons we have sex study. Tell us at least five but not more than ten reason you have had sex.
- Because I liked the idea of a challenge
- (cliched) Because I make even worse decisions when drunk
- Because I wanted to hurt you, but I just ended up hurting myself
- Because it was the best way to show you how I felt
- Because I love(d) you
- Because we were waiting for the clothes to finish drying.

TMI Tuesday

1. My biggest sexual turnoff is __________?
Um, body hair. I know it's super immature but I just don't like getting your hair in my mouth, no matter how clean it is, sorry.
2. Do you prefer natural tastes or flavored lubes?
Flavoured lubes are gross.
3. How much money would it take to convince you to get on stage naked?
I don't really think you can count that high, let's just leave it at that. I don't like random nudity (aka. nudity that doesn't serve a purpose such as getting laid or getting clean)
4. Have you ever been to an AA meeting or similar support group meeting?
Yeah, my step sister had all sorts of substance abuse issues. She's better now (in that respect at least)
5. Do you wear socks to bed? Is that okay or totally unsexy?
Um, no I don't. This comes back to my dislike of foreign hair - I don't like finding random strands of hair in my bed and I think that they stick to socks more than bare feet. It's not a dealbreaker, but it's not really hot. I could understand if you were camping or something though...

I'll make you a celebrity overnight
My interviewer is the lovely Maritza of Jump in the Ocean fame.
1. What has been the most important event in your life; the one that made you the person you are today?
I had to think long and hard about this one and it came to me as I was walking home one night. I'd probably have to say my watershed moment came about sometime around Passover my final year of high school. My relationship with my mother is/always has been on the rocky side. Primarily for reasons I don't really feel the need to go into in such a public forum but that weekend pretty much made me who I am today.
My relationship with my mom disintegrated to such a point that she cut me off financially and I stopped living with her entirely and moved into my father's house that weekend. The fact that it's a family-oriented holiday is not lost on me - and maybe that's part of the reason that I hate holidays.
We had a few more choice encounters in subsequent months and it became apparent that our relationship was broken beyond repair. The details of our falling out aren't terribly important anymore, it's over and done with, but the reaction of my immediate family following that weekend kind of put a damper on any thoughts of reconciliation I may have had.
The fact that half my family could turn their backs on my at the drop of a hat and based on erroneous directives from my mother still haunts me. The only thing that got me through those couple of years is my cousin T, who also spent a little time being excommunicated from the family and coached me through it.
Needless to say, that only brought my father and I closer together. I know my mom is ready to put all that business behind her (she's come to terms with the fact that she wasn't entirely blameless in this fiasco) but it's really hard for me to invest in a relationship knowing that any day now it could just blow up in my face.
That's pretty much a metaphor for my life right now, and I hate it but that's just the way it is. The old adage that time heals all wounds is complete and utter bullshit - it just makes you more bitter.
2. Your blog is mostly about day-to-day stuff about school or work. What's your family background? I've only read snippets about your mother.
My family background - well it's a long one. First, and foremost, I was adopted from Jamaica by my mom and dad (my birth parents are dead - but I was just a baby so my adoptive parents are the only ones I've known). My dad is an accountant who works for a brokerage and my mom is the VP of a market research firm in Ottawa - where I'm from.
I come from a long line of doctors and other professionals, I think pretty much everyone in my extended family has at least two degrees. My grandfather and uncle were pioneers in modern Canadian pathology and there's a building named after my mom's side of the family at McGill - so no pressure there, but that's definitely influenced my career path - well, that and my love of Saved by the Bell but that's another story entirely.
My parents are divorced and our relationship is rocky to say the least. My mother and I are at least on speaking terms now, and my father's remarried.
3. Marriage, kids, minivan - appealing or shoot me now?
Marriage? Yes, eventually. Kids, um maybe one - again, eventually. I'm in no rush. Minivan, definitely not, I'm more of a station wagon-type gal anyways, although that's pretty soccer mom-like anyways so I guess it falls under the same umbrella.
4. If you could snap your fingers and make one wish come true, what would it be? (No Miss America or in your case, Ms. Canada, answers please. World peace is not acceptable)
Well, I don't really think I'd want a time machine so I could rectify all the wrongs that I've done or anything - I still think that everything happens for a reason, but not in some schmaltzy way so I'm going to go with something that's for the greater good:
I'd wish for universal access to education. Education has always been super-important to me and I really don't think it's fair that people who want to learn are being held back by financial constraints. I really wish everyone had the opportunities I had when it came to education.
5. Do you really do as much shopping as you seem to do? Is there an unlimited Gingerbread wardrobe fund or are you just the hardest working girl in Blogland?
In a word, yes. I shop a lot, but I guess I'm pretty well-off compared to most students. I work a lot (basically full-time and go to school full-time as well so I've earned it). I work in retail so I get a pretty decent discount on clothes I'd be buying anyways, so it works out.
I guess it's a little from column A and a little from column B.
The rules from Avi:
Here are the rules if you want to keep it going:
Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
You will update your weblog with the answers to the questions.
You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

Writer's Block
ipso facto, another meme.
I'm dying under the pressures of school and work right now (...and, to top things off, it's snowed, just a little today - I hate the winter!), so I bring you a musical meme I stole from hot coffee girl.
- Pick a band and answer only using song titles: Nada Surf
- Are you male or female: Mother's Day
- Describe yourself: Treading Water
- Your best piece of advice: No Quick Fix
- Describe your last relationship: Slow Down
- Describe your last crush: Firecracker
- Say something to someone you have a crush on: All Is a Game
- Say something to an ex: Stalemate
- Say something to someone who hurt you severely: What Is Your Secret?
- How do you feel right now: Blankest Year
Feel free to steal it and let me know if you do…

This calls for a Bud Light Monday Morning Meme (TM)
These are the rules of the game: The first player chose a topic. In this case, the topic is SIX WEIRD HABITS OF YOURS. You must then write a journal entry listing those weirdnesses you possess~as well as the rules of the game. Then, you select SIX PEOPLE TO TAG and link their names/blogs in your entry. Go to their journals and leave a comment informing them they have been tagged by you and to read your journal to see in what way they have been nailed! Those six then MUST (note that I insist upon it!) write an entry listing their weird habits and tag an additional five people.
I don't really believe in tagging - partly due to sheer laziness and partly out of compassion. So if you're inclined to do this, go to town...
1. I can't sleep without relaxation tapes, the lamer the soundtrack the better. Caribbean Shores and Amazon Rain forest are in heavy rotation. Sexy, I know. Before I moved to Edmonton, and before Hanover, I spent my gap year living with friends in a downtown Ottawa apartment across from a seedy nightclub and have since become accustomed to excessive background noise.
2. I cannot take a shower if the shower is still damp from someone else using it. I will either wait till it is bone dry to shower or go without if time doesn't permit.
3. I usually don't like sitting with people on public transit and will opt to stand no matter how long the bus/train/subway ride is.
4. I like to wake up early (the only exception being when I'm super hungover) just so I can get a few hours to myself with absolutely no distractions.
5. I can't turn off iTunes until the playcounts are even.
6. I takes me about 4 hours every day to decide what I'm going to have for lunch.
Aren't I fascinating? Yeah, not so much

This mix probably won't get you laid...

Totally cribbed this one from TAN
The soundtrack to your life
So, here's how it works:
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that's playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
6. Don't lie and try to pretend you're cool...
Waking Up: Hot Rod - Peaches
First Day at School: Crazy Time - Leela James
Falling In Love: You Can Kill A Revolution - The Wolfnote
Fight Song: Tell You Now - Le Tigre
Breaking Up: First Time Around (DFA Spring Radio Mix) - Skyy
Prom: Galang 05 - M.I.A.
Life: Night After Night - The Sounds
Mental Breakdown: Through The Dark - KT Tunstall
Driving: Come Rain or Come Shine - Juliette Lewis
Flashback: Same Ghost Every Night - Wolf Parade
Wedding: Today I Hate Everyone - The Killjoys
Birth of Child: Crazy (Gnarls Barkley Acoustic Cover) - Nelly Furtado
Final Battle: Drop It Like It's Huey (Mashup) - CompactRisk
Death Scene: Ain't Got No (I Got Life) - Nina Simone
Funeral Song: The Virginian - Neko Case
End Credit: Trick Me - Kelis
I didn't cheat, it's just entirely coincidental than none of my mildly shameful iTunes tracks (Lindsay Lohan, K-Fed, Kelly Clarkson, et. al) made it to the list.
All in all, this is a pretty good mix. Some of the song choices are a bit funny (mostly just the 'waking up', 'wedding', and 'final battle') and others are oddly appropriate ('mental breakdown', 'flashback', 'death scene', and 'funeral song'). Weirdly enough, 'falling in love' is actually a song by my boss' band, although I had been a fan of theirs since way before I started working - just strange.
Although, for me, falling in love at this point would be nothing short of revolutionary, but crazier things have happened...

Never Have I Ever...
1. Dated outside your race?
Never dated in my race, I've said it before, and I'll say it again - I don't like black guys. I've actually only dated white guys
2. Singing in the shower?
Sometimes, but it's usually just The Format because we play it at work all.of.the.time.
3. Spit in someone's drink?
Once, I think I was 9 or 10 and we were at dinner after a basketball tourney.
4. Played with Barbies?
My parents are so anti-barbie, so I only had one, and it was a gift. She was black and had some sort of tacky orange track suit on.
5. Made someone cry?
Yes, I'm what they call an opinionated bitch. Also I think I've probably made The Archaeologist cry, but it's just a theory.
6. Opened your Christmas presents early?
Yes, I fucking HATE surprises.
7. Lied to a friend?
Uh, yeah, but who hasn't?
8. Watched and cried while watching a soap opera?
Sadly, yes. I've also cried while watching Made.
9. Played a computer game for more than 5 hours?
I used to be addicted to The Sims, and it's the first game I'll buy when I get a new computer.
10. Ran through the sprinklers naked?
No, 'never nude' is my mantra. I come from a 'naked house' and thus abhor random nudity.
11. Ate food that fell on the floor?
Depends on what the food is.
12. Went outside naked?
Not intentionally
13. Been on stage?
Yeah, I'm a former band geek and to accept awards and stuff.
14. Been on stage naked or close to it?
Does a dock count? (obvs, I was drunk)
15. Been in a parade?
I was 4 and it was the Santa Claus parade in the T Dot (I think I was more stoked about the free candy canes, because I heart candy canes in the same way that some people love their children)
16. Been in a school play?
No, I think my school only had like 2 or 3 plays while I was a student
17. Drank beer?
Drank, funneled, spewed, imbibed, you name it.
18. Gotten detention?
Yep, I'm also mouthy.
19. Been on a plane?
My family lives three provinces away, aka. 72+ hours driving, with my non-existent license, so yeah.
20. Been on a cruise?
Yep, it was to Alaska with my Aunt Sheila
21. Broken into a house?
Yeah, but it was my own house. I borrowed a ladder from maintenance guys working down the street. I was slightly alarmed at how few questions they asked.
22. Gotten a tattoo?
Nope, too scared
23. Gotten piercings?
I have six, guess where they are...
24. Gotten into a fist fight?
Someone punched me in the face once, but I'm a non-confrontational pansy, so I didn't really do anything about it. Also she was a crazy bitch, and she could have easily taken me.
25. Gotten into a shouting match?
Uh, yeah. I like to fight with words
26. Swallowed sea/pool water?
I don't really do public pools, I'm a germophobe
27. Spun yourself in circles to get dizzy on purpose?
No, I puke easily (ask my friend Dave)
28. Laughed so hard it hurt?
Usually only with TC or Latte
29. Tripped on your own feet?
I once tripped getting on to a bus, and bailed hard face-first. Then I had to endure stares for the rest of the bus ride home.
30. Cried yourself to sleep?
Sure, once or twice
31. Cried in public?
I try to avoid it, but I think it's happened at least once. To be fair one of the first times I had essentially lost all the skin on about a quarter of my leg, so natch.
32. Thrown up in public?
It wasn't in public, but everyone found out about it. It's a funny story in retrospect, but it's haunted me, maybe I'll tell you guys sometime.
33. Lied to your parents?
Sure, there are some things they really don't need to know
34. Skipped class?
Yeah (see: First Year)
35. Cried so hard you threw up?
Yep - again I have a weak gag reflex. Sometimes I puke because I cough too hard.

The panty raid
Personally, I hate the word 'panties' because it evokes something slightly paedophilic, and it creeps me out when guys use it to describe undergarments.
[k writes:]
Yes This is a Panty Meme.
Last month I mentioned that I was invited to join a panty exchange, AKA a panty chain letter. Today I sent out my pair and my six letters. I received several e-mails from bloggers wishing to join, but only had six letters to distribute. So instead of an actual panty chain letter, I thought a panty meme might be realistic. So here it is....
Welcome to the panty meme.
Here's how it works.
1. Copy the entire text of this post (the part shown in italics) and post in your blog. Reminder:Do not copy photos.
2. Add your name and link to the Panty Meme Participants list below.
3. Post a picture of panties. It's fun if you post a picture of your own panties, but it does not have to be. And BTW you don't need to be wearing them, but it's your blog you can do what you like.
4. Tag two people and change out the names below.
That's it. Have fun.
Panty Meme Participants.
Kelly
Team Gingerbread
Maritza
Tag you're it!
1. Nicole because sometimes she lives vicariously through me
2. Shirley because we'd probably be drinking buddies if we lived in the same city
Here are my panties
