Dunzo

So I'm pretty sure my iPod has seen it's last days - it lead a purposeful and adventurous life. It's almost two years old and I have no idea what brought this on but it won't even turn on anymore. I got that white corruption screen at work yesterday and it hasn't turned on since.

It keeps trying to turn on/charge, but I just hear clicking from the HD and a darkened screen. Just sucks though because I hate the new iPods (I don't like how sticky the scroll wheel is), but I like the minis. I don't need a mini though since I have my 8GB Zune and a 16GB iPhone. I want something big enough to hold my entire collection for work.

I don't even know if it's worth taking it into the Genius Bar at WEM.

Maybe it's because it's early, or maybe it's because I'm retarded

But I always get teh Safari and Quicktime logos confused and usually end up clicking on the wrong one when trying to launch the other.

It's probably more of a testament to how infrequently I use Safari (Flock is my default browser) but my alternate email address is always logged in under Safari and every once and a while I need to retrieve a message from the inbox and opposed to searching for it on my phone (which is far more effort than I'm willing to put in this early in the AM).

Safari and Quicktime are right next to each other on my dock, FYI and I have a customized Safari icon if that makes it any better.

The nice thing about not being able to sleep is that it frees up a lot of time to do other things

On one such sleepless occasion, I took it upon myself to buy a domain and set it up for use with my Mobile Me account. I've always had a .Mac account, but I mostly used it for storage, but I figured if I have all that space why not use it to do something creative. It's currently lying dormant right now, but I just bought RapidWeaver 4 (as an alternative to my pre-installed iWeb, which is nice, but a little too basic, and I could tell that I would quickly tire of it) and I'm looking forward to playing around with that.

There's a free demo available on-site for people who are a bit squeamish about parting with $80 without having tested out the usability of the software.

Scratches

I'm not really one for cases, except for my camera, but that's more of a practical thing. I don't really care what happens to my phone as long as the screen stays intact (fingers crossed), and I have yet to drop it myself, well not on the ground at least. During its unboxing it slipped out of my hands like a fish, and fell into my bag, but that's another story entirely.

He wanted to see my phone, and I was feeling generous, so I let him have it. I'm not super anal about people rifling through my phone because there really isn't anything incriminating on it (not yet at least). Less than 20 seconds later it slipped out of his hands, he caught it, with his skateboard ,and now there are two rather prominent scuffs on the back, that have since been dyed blue from my jeans.

Boo.

Updated

I finally got around to syncing my old Hotmail account with my new phone. I only keep that email address around for the benefit of my mother, who is too lazy or too technologically inept to be trusted to change an email address bookmark.

She had previously sent me two emails that I failed to reply to in a timely manner. Which prompted a third. I don't like replying to my mom's emails because they are always:

a) stupid, she emails me about the most inane things all the time. ex. The sky is blue in Ottawa today, how about in Edmonton? xoxo MOM (she capitalises the 'Mom' part in case I wonder who this strange woman is that keeps emailing me with the same last name)

b) she emails me at really weird times. 5:18 AM today, yeah that's 7:18 AM EST, but still. When the email goes right to my phone, it's a tad inconvenient.

c) she is entirely incapable of writing an email that doesn't include some sort of depressing factoid about someone having had a heart attack, being stricken with cancer, how stupid something is, or how out of touch she is with my life.

I dread the emails, and I put off replying until I sense that she'll either fly out here to confront me about my lack of reply ("you know, I thought you were dead. This is a really busy time of year for me at work, so it's good that you're not, but maybe you could reply to my emails?")

I scanned today's email and quickly fired off a two sentence reply that corrected something that I'd previously told her at least 100 times, and ignored all the negative bullshit. I'll get back to it when I want to induce suicidal ideation.

Apple Store - Edmonton

I went to the [new] Apple store in WEM yesterday because I was in search of a firewire cable. The store looked kind of unfinished and while everything was in the right place, it still looked a little bit off. Everyone that was working there still seemed a little hesitant and overwhelmed and I wasn't the only one that had to aggressively hunt down an employee in a bright blue shirt.

The dude at the end of the genius bar looked like he was going to throttle someone, and I didn't even want to pose a question but I was pressed for time and I had to. He was surprisingly helpful, but not terirbly friendly.

I know the store is busy, and filled with time-wasting gawkers, but you work Apple, and people expect a certain level of exuberance and customer service. It's only a week or so in, and if you're not feeling it, you should find another job. I'll probably still buy most of my Apple products from the online store.

Oops

I keep forgetting to hit publish on my posts and then I wonder why nothing shows up. I came home from work tonight only to discover my (in-browser blog publisher) was stalled and still said 'publishing to site'. Hmmm, I wonder what's up with that?

Today turned out to be a really good day and I managed to get everything done (and with time to spare as a lovely little bonus). I'm still getting used to my new computer and I'm cleaning up the mess that senuti left behind.

My current iPod is loaded up with tracks that I had long since deleter from my old computer, leaving me unable to update it without losing all my previous tracks. At the beginning of my insomnia spell, I busied myself with transferring all the old track off my iPod onto my shiny new MacBook but I kept getting all these error messages and I eventually discovered multiple versions of the exact same tracks all over my music folder.

I've been deleting files all morning and I've still only at the beginning of the 'H' folders.

Feed the Animals

As I wait patiently for Fed Ex to drop off my new computer, I'm downloading the new Girl Talk album - Feed The Animals.

It's a pay what you will-type scheme but it's really good, so don't stiff them. I over-payed, because that's just how I roll - and it makes up for the fact that half the people downloading it won't pay at all.

Yay!

I finally bit the bullet and bought a new laptop. Apple says it should be here by the 2nd (of July) but they always seem to over-estimate the delivery date, so it'll probably be here sooner.

Basically, I just needed to a buy a new laptop before I buy the 3G iPhone because my current notebook is not compatible with anything.

Agonizingly Slow

It's been almost 3 weeks without the internet. First, it was just our wireless router that was on the fritz, requiring us to be tethered to our main router but now they've both gone menopausal and have seemingly had meltdowns and no one knows how to fix it.

This whole blogging from my phone thing sucks, I feel like I'm getting carpal tunnel syndrome from this tiny god-forsaken keyboard.

Just Great

I just broke one of the keys off my laptops keyboard, gah! This sucks.

It wouldn't be such a big deal were it not the command (Apple) key, so integral to my day-to-day life. I think it's finally time to bite the bullet and order myself a new Mac.

A Pricey Brick

Somehow, over the course of it's roughly six year lifespan, the cord to my iBook's AC adapter is frayed. I noticed its disintegration around 2 months ago, but I'm pretty careful, so I figured I'd wait it out. I'm still kinda hoping to get a new computer in the next few weeks from either of my parents ('tis the season after all) but on Sunday night I went to go plug in my computer only to find the charging light extinguished.

I log into my Apple account expecting to not be able to find the AC adapter I need, but it's in stock and it's also $100, ouch. I didn't really want to spend that much, but I don't think it's going to last to Christmas anyways, so it's a necessary expense - besides, it's not like I'm going to trash my old computer even if a new one shows up under the tree.

And now I wait, for Purolator to show up at my door, with an aesthetically-wrapped package in tow. When did Apple switch from shipping with Fed Ex anyways?

Technical Difficulties

My roommate and I have alternated talking to all kinds of technical support personnel and we still can't use the internet at home. It's ridiculous and incredibly frustrating...

Why is it that our internet connection was far more reliable when we were stealing it?

On Tiny Keyboards

My internet connection at home hasn't been working for the past couple of days. I left my roommate a note but she's with her arents this weekend so it didn't really do me any good.

I'm resorting to posting via cell phone (really the only upside to having an ample data plan) for the sake of this annual challenge but it's trying.

Today was supposed to be my day off but this girl I work with is sick with the fluProbably because she's so stressed from putting off breaking up with her boyfriendI was going to write more but the screen doesn't quite render properly on my phone so I can't see what I'm typing...

A Rose By Any Other Name

I got a text last night from Facebook alerting me to the fact that some random had just friend-requested me. I didn't really recognize the name so I added them, fired up my computer to lurk their profile. The profile picture yielded no clues to this mystery friend's identity so I dug a little deeper. It was only then that I realized that I did in fact know this dude, I just always forget that we always refer to him by his nickname - and that I'm retarded.

The same thing happened to me earlier in the week when my friend Ashley started talking about hanging out with her friend Andrew and then I was all "Who the fuck is Andrew?!" "My boyfriend?" came her sunned response. "Right" I replied rather sheepishly.

It just reminds me of my high school friend Bev's exclamation during our commencement ceremony when they called our friend 'James' to the stage, except she'd only really know him as 'Jim'. When we clarified that Jim is short for James she thought about it for a minute then responded: "Weird, I always knew it was short for something but I just assumed is was Jimothy or something..."

Moving On

So I was perusing Facebook the other day and noticed a girl that I honestly haven't seen in about 5 or 6 years had poked me. I recognized the name, but not the face upon lurking her profile, wondering to myself if she had been involved in a terrible accident that necessitated the reconstruction of her face, or if my memory was simply faulty.

As I added her as a friend, I noticed that she listed herself as being married so I poked around for pictures of her nuptials. Her husband looked really familiar, I knew we went to high school together, but I couldn't quite remember his name (it has been a little over 6 years since I graduated from high school and he was a transfer student in our penultimate year).

He of course doesn't have Facebook but in one of the pictures his brother, presumably the best man, was tagged and he has a rather distinct last name, so bells went off. It was her high school boyfriend, cute I suppose if it weren't part of a growing trend.

A little background info is in order. I graduated from a really tiny high school, as in my graduating class was well below 150 people. I would put it closer to 115-120 max. I also grew up in a pretty secluded neighborhood and there were lots of schools nearby so I attended high school with a lot of the people I'd attended middle and elementary schools with and I would say (this is a conservative estimate as I'm not in touch with every single person) that about a third of them are married or engaged in long-term relationships with other people we graduated with.

Ew! Are you fucking kidding me? You went away to university and you couldn't find anyone else in that 4 to 6 years away from home that you felt the need to reconnect (or never leave, ahem, you know who you are) with your high school boyfriend - lame. If that's honestly the case then I should probably start packing my bags for my big move to Toronto to reclaim my lost love.

In any case I'll definitely be calling my friend D, if only to mock the state of coupledom in our grad class...and possibly to start planning our wedding.

Frustration thy name is Azureus

I've been downloading the first four episodes of the third season of Weeds for the last three days, except that midway though (around 90% if anyone's counting) my download I figured it would be a good time to update my Azuereus software.

Only, it's not compatible with my antiquated operating system (Mac OS 10.2.8) and I ended up essentially wasting 2.5 days downloading something that no longer exists becuase I had to delete the program and use Tomato Torrent instead. Now I've re-downloaded all but one of the episodes, because the remaining one is sitting at around 95% complete and it's stopped - troublesome only because it's the first one and I need to watch it before I watch the others argh!

Can We Just Work it Out?

Because my roommate is socially undeveloped,, sometimes she finds it hard to function in normal relationships where there is expected to be some give and take. I couldn't find my iPod's charging cable last night so I just borrowed hers. She wasn't home, so I figured I'd be finished with it before she got home on the off chance that we'd both need to use it.

It's around 10 pm and I'm seriously considering turning in because I'm really wiped out for some reason so I retire to my room to grab my toothbrush/cell phone charger. I heard my roommate come in, stomp around for a bit and then nothing so I go out to see what's up. She turns the corner and angrily storms past me whilst clutching the white cable in question. As we pass she growls "I need this!" as she shakes the little cable in my face and slams the door to the computer room.

I wanted to storm in there and explain to her that the only situation in which she would be justified to display that much anger is if she caught me fucking her boyfriend (not my style, read: he's ugly). I thought it out and realized the confrontation just wasn't worth is and busied myself with finding my cable

I finally found it in my sock drawer (of course!) and plugged it in then went to bed. I normally charge my iPod on the dining room table because the light from the computer keeps me up at night, and I woke up this morning to discover that she had gone out of her way to put my computer to sleep (spite perhaps?) thus curtailing my iPod charging adventures.
