Cramps

I've been eating too much ice cream before bed and now I have to deal with crippling cramps. Save me from myself.

Sleeping is for the poors

I don't really sleep anymore, and my circadian rhythms are completely whacked. It's almost one am and I just took my (home-made) lasagna out of the oven. I've been on a bit of a cooking spell as of late since I have all the time in the world to peruse Epicurious and Martha Stewart.

Gymming, or lack thereof

I was supposed to go to the gym on Sunday, but I got a sudden urge for ice cream, which turned into a bit of a meandering trip to the store and then an eventual google search for buffets in the area (for a friend, I swear). By the time I got home the rice maker had finishedcooking my basmati, and it was past 9 pm, so I couldn't really get in a good run anyways, and I had just bought my favourite cheese - so I shelved my plans for another day.

Sauced

The last couple of times I was at my local Wendy's, I've noticed that they now sell fish - kinda creepy, but I was also kind of intrigued. I don't know why, but I insisted on trying it last night. The first thing I noticed when I peeled away the wrapper was just how much sauce they had put on it, it oozed over the side of the bun and dripped onto the inside of the wrapper. I got a huge gob of it in my mouth with every bite, my inintial thought were "Um, is that butter. What is that taste, and why is there so much sauce?"

I do know that the tartar sauce was a little overpowering and tasted like butter that had gone bad, not great. The fish part seemed ok - it was surprisingly crispy and fresh-tasting, but it was so hard to tell under that much sauce, so if I ever got it again, I'd opt for it without the sauce.

I'm not a big sauce person, usually I get my burgers sans ketchup, etc. so if you love mayo, this might be right up your alley.

What Goes Down Might Come Up: A Yoga Story

I was supposed to go to the gym then go out to a friend's going away party but I bailed on both in favour of eating bad takeout Indian food and watching CSI. I hadn't planned on being so blah, but I just couldn't bring myself to hit the gym in the hour I had left before it closed after work, plus I was starving and dehydrated so I said 'fuck it' and planned on both going to the gym and doing yoga on Friday to make up for it.

I don't know why I insisted on the butter chicken, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. Deep down I knew that wasn't the case, but m ravenous appetite clouded my judgment.

Fast forward and I've wolfed it all down as well as a can of diet iced tea and a slice of pie. Even though I'm feeling kinda bloated, I tell myself that it's nothing a little yoga can't cure. So I ease myself off the couch and into my yoga tights and unfurl my mat.

About five minutes in I started to feel a little queasy and it only worsened with every subsequent inverted pose to the point where I was actually concentrating on my breathing and not the searing pain in my thighs like I normally do (you're supposed to structure your breathing blah, blah, blah but I never do because I'm lazy/don't care).

I have this thing against stopping dvds, treadmills and the like - once I've started, I just can't stop until the natural conclusion of the cycle/program.I promised myself that if I actually threw up that I could stop, otherwise I'd have to just grin and bear it but towards the end my heartburn/acid reflux was getting so bad that I had to stop doing a boat pose.

Lessons learned: Yoga and Indian food don't go together.

Sub-par

I enjoyed a rather boisterous dinner with some of the girls after work on Thursday unfortunately our server was really shitty and our food wasn't much better. The server kept repeatedly bringing us the worng stuff ranging from the minute (forgetting out salads) to the major (bringing us the wrong bill at the end of the night) - it was obvious that it just wasn't his calling. I would have been able to unerstand the sub-par service if it had been busy but it wasn't. There were literally 6 other tables seated in the restaurant and only two of them were in his section.

The dinner conversation ran the gamut from sex (naturally) to more sex (who we'd do if they were older) to this past weekend (which involved sex for some of us) and whether we'd sleep with certain people next time they were in town (ahem, RR) - very diverse, no?

The bill came after a rather unremarkable dining experience, and it was clearly the wrong bill as ours was supposed to be nearing $100 and the one face-down on the table was barely $25.
"Let's just pay this one and peace"
suggested The Pansy.
"Uh, no, we can't do that..." I countered "Why not? It's the bill that was brought to us" she replied. "That's just not how it works" added Cute 'n' Fresh.
The Air Hostess remained relatively silent throughout this whole exchange. "It's definitely not worth it" I added "Whatever! It's the bill he gave us" countered an exasperated Pansy.
"Ignorance is not an excuse..." Cute 'n' Fresh and I rationalized
.

In the end we ended up paying our correct bill while The Pansy grumbled about what pussies we all were and The Air Hostess drove us all home.

The Dinner Party

As seems to be tradition, we did the whole long-weekend dinner party thing wherein we watch whatever trashy offering MTV throws our way (The Hills + Aftershow) and made food (far too much - seriously, I think I threw up in my sleep that's how stuffed I was).

The Bar Star and her boyfriend (who is as Hills-obsessed as we are) bickered about nagging issues, Mr. Fancy Pants got soused and tried to watch The Hills covertly beforehand because he couldn't wait. The Archaeologist once again proved what a terrible vegan he is and scarfed down his fair share of the cheese-laden garlic bread while we alternately cooked and watched The Simple Life.

There was some Guitar Hero action but it consisted mostly of The Boyfriend playing by himself as most of the girls resent want nothing to do with the dreaded game.

I got very little sleep because of nagging acid reflux (see: I drink too much) and ended up waking up really early. I decided on a whim to dress up for work the next day (and by dress up I mean wear a nice shirt that doesn't have a slogan printed on it and shoes that have straps and are made of leather instead of canvas) so that I could break in my new party shoes as the date looms in the future.

I got to work early only to discover that it was my day off, but I had the keys - really my own fault because I make the schedules so I have no one to blame but myself when I forget when I'm working...

"It's Like, Yeah, Motherfucker, I'm Fine."

...well not really because I got greedy and tried the double jalapeƱo cheeseburger combo with diet lemonade (because, you know, I'm watching my figure) tonight before we dove into a new episode of The Real World: Denver and now it feels like a civil war between my stomach and my gag reflex.

I need antacids, and more self-control.

Boys are mysterious

Team Gingerbread: Is that a pomegranate?
The Engineer: Um, yes.
Team Gingerbread: When did you start eating all this exotic fruit? First salad, then mango yogurt, then this?
Team Gingerbread: I feel like I don't even know you anymore! Do you have some secret stash of starfruit shampoo that you use when I'm not around too?
The Engineer: Um, it's not mine, it belongs to [The Engineer's roommate]
Team Gingerbread: Oh. Perhaps I overreacted a little bit...
The Engineer: One might say that - not me, of course, but someone else...

And to think I used to be a vegetarian

It's free food season on Greek Row/campus, which for the most part means free barbecued meat.

Since Saturday, I think I've consumed at least 10 hamburgers, and I'm starting to feel a little sick. I had to have a salad at work yesterday because I actually felt like dying (although in retrospect that probably had a little to do with my excessive alcohol consumption the night before).

The Domestic Doyennes

Pancake and I decided to make cupcakes or brownies for the second time in so many weeks, although it should be noted that this time they were not of the special nature. And then we stayed up chatting until 4am. I might post pictures later once we fix the icing scenario. In other news, I'm still waiting for my 3rd pair of slipons. I ordered them on ebay/payed for them on the same day that I ordered the other two pairs, and I've had those for a week...

I'm impatient
