Turns of that a month-and-a-half ago, she got into a pretty serious car accident. She's fine, her hand shattered the windshield (destroying her beloved phone in the process) and her car was totaled. She ended up needing some reconstructive surgery on her hand (explaining the lapse in monthly newsletters) and has been unable to drive - she relayed to me the sad story of how she was relegated to using public transport with the paeons before the company car service kicked in and how hard it is getting used to a new phone.
She also explained to me for the umpteenth time how she's essentially car-less for the next little while (which isn't entirely true, as she has another car, a little roadster that's strictly for summer use) and how she refuses to buy a new car until she's able to test-drive it first, blah, blah, blah. By far the best part of the email was the part where she referred to herself as a 'great driver', who'd 'never been in an accident' before - um, this from the woman who almost hit a pedestrian (granted said pedestrian was also stooped over in the street picking something up) and the same woman who is/was so road rage-filled that she has has taken to barreling through stand-still traffic by way of the medians and shoulders of busy thoroughfares, right!

I have a hard time dealing with my mom, and I think if we spoke less we'd actualy be more at peace and not fighting all the time.
It's hard to deal with family, you just have to make the best of it
